Kulkuls| deep fried traditional cookies are sweet dough moulded/ shaped into small curls which looks pretty than thickly rolled ones. they are distributed to neighbours and friends during Christmas and shared as gifts along other traditional sweets. it totally depends you whether you like it as crunchy, frosted or slightly dusted with powdered sugar.

Kulkuls|deep fried traditional cookie

PREP TIME: 10 MINUTES

COOK TIME: 20 MINUTES

TOTAL TIME: 30 MINUTES

INGREDIANTS

1 cup = 200 gm

For making dough

1 cup Maida/all purpose flour

1/3 cup Powdered sugar

Salt as taste

1/8 tsp Baking soda

1/3 cup Semolina/rava

2 tsp Ghee/clarified butter

1/2 cup Milk

For frying kulkuls

1 cup oil

For making dough

  1. Take a bowl, strain maida, powdered sugar, salt and baking soda with the help of a strainer.
  2. Now, add rava and ghee and mix well.
  3. Now, add milk slowly to dry flour and mix and crumble.
  4. Knead into firm dough and cover the dough with the help of a towel and rest for 15 minutes.
  5. Pinch a small portion of the dough and flatten the dough on to the back of a fork and roll the top so that a curled up shape.
  6. Do the same for the rest of the dough.

For frying kulkulle

  1. In a deep sauce pan , heat up oil.
  2. Deep fry pieces in medium hot oil and add as many pieces as come in comfortably without touching each other
  3. Keep the fried cubes in the kitchen towel so that excess oil is removed.
  4. Serve kulkuls coated with powdered sugar or you can serve as simple.
